David Starr is a singer-songwriter and owner of the popular Cedaredge, CO based guitar shop Starr's Guitars. A gifted musician, Starr has shared stages with The Marshall Tucker Band, The Guess Who, Clint Black and more. His 2015 album Love and Sabotage featured multiple Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members including Booker T. & the M.G.'s and Stax Records legend Steve Cropper, Richie Furay of Buffalo Springfield, and John Oates of Daryl Hall & John Oates. Oates produced and arranged Starr's new EP, The Head and Heart, which includes five original songs as well as a cover of The Mamas and the Papas classic "California Dreamin'." Oates stated, "David Starr has a voice you will never forget. His music is authentic, his songs are honest, full of emotion and truth." This is David Starr's Fidelity High: The Band // Music From Big Pink // Capitol Records // 1968. David says, "I was only 12 years old when the local record store had a contest; the whole storefront was plastered with copies of the cover art of a soon-to-be-released album. No title on the front. Just an abstract, almost childlike painting of some musicians at their instruments. And there was an elephant in the scene as well. Very cryptic and mysterious. The contest called for passersby to figure out the name of the unreleased record. It was The Band’s Music From Big Pink. Once I heard it, I was moved beyond my years and understanding by the sounds and voices. It was dark and sunny all at the same time. It spoke to my childhood loneliness. And it felt like real people working it out. I knew that it would continue to speak to me as an aspiring musician in a way nothing had before. As I look back on The Band's earliest efforts, including Music From Big Pink, I hear the rumblings of what would become, to me, real Americana music. I got to know Levon Helm in the late '70s. He told me some great stories and even gave me some fashion advice. His passion for honest music inspires me to this day."
