Musician, The Jezabels
Hayley Mary is the front woman of the acclaimed Australian indie pop band The Jezabels. Their 2011 debut album Prisoner, was awarded "Best Independent Release" at the ARIA Music Awards (Australia's equivalent to The Grammy) in 2012. This year saw the band release their third album Synthia which reached number four on the ARIA Albums Charts. The Jezabels just began a North American tour and will end the year with an appearance at the Falls Music and Arts Festival in Australia. This is Hayley Mary's Fidelity High: Cocteau Twins // Heaven Or Las Vegas // 4AD // 1990. Hayley says, "We were on the road in the USA in 2011 when our tour manager showed us Cocteau Twins for the first time. The whole band immediately loved it for it's sublime melodic uplifting yet haunting feeling, and it's rare for us to all like something, so we spent the rest of that tour listening to them. But beyond my fond touring memories of Heaven or Las Vegas, it was also an album that taught me a lot about creating your own language, that words and music can be used as a beautiful resistance to convention that can be sensory rather than sensible, basically that music is a way of seeking a universal language."
