Matt Urmy

Singer / Songwriter & Founder of Artist Growth

Matt Urmy is a Nashville based singer songwriter who Rolling Stone Country has named an "Artist You Need to Know."  He recently celebrated the release of his new album Out of the Ashes which the Nashville Scene stated "could be the most fascinating Nashville album of the past decade...and it almost went unheard."  The record was co-produced by the late (and legendary) Cowboy Jack Clement, with sessions beginning in 2010 at his home studio Cowboy Arms Hotel & Recording Spa.  Within months, mixing was well under way when Clement's home and studio were lost in a fire, including the hard drives containing the nearly completed album.  A year later, the raw files were miraculously recovered and Matt went to work on completing the album with the addition of the Clement inspired title track featuring John Prine.  In addition to releasing a book of poetry, The Rain In The Bell, Matt is also the Founder & CEO of Artist Growth, a software company whose platform assists artists in managing their business at home and on the road.  The rising company has received attention from The Wall Street Journal, Businessweek, Billboard Magazine and more and counts everyone from The Beach Boys to Earl Sweatshirt as clients.  This is Matt Urmy's Fidelity High:  Leonard Cohen // The Best Of // Columbia Records // 1975.  Matt says, "This is one of the first LPs I ever got my hands on, and it was certainly the first one to pull me into another space and time with its songs. Something in the way they were able to create so much with such sparse production really knocked me down. The anti-gravitational and spacial aspects of the music created this frame for Leonard’s poetry, and as a viewer/listener, it was just a tremendous experience. Songs like The Partisan, Suzanne, Chelsea Hotel #2, and Bird On A Wire just blew me away. I felt I’d wandered into a portal, and when I got back there was this sense I’d been given permission, or set free in some strange way…it’s the only way I can describe the experience of being a young songwriter and falling into the multi-dimensionality of this collection of tunes."
