Musician, Hippo Campus
Nathan Stocker plays guitar and sings in the St. Paul, Minnesota based indie rock band Hippo Campus. After meeting at the St. Paul Conservatory for Performing Arts, the band released a pair of EPs that were produced by Alan Sparhawk of Low in 2015. The buzz surrounding those releases led to the band appearing on Conan and sharing stages with Modest Mouse, My Morning Jacket, Real Estate, and more. Hippo Campus released their debut full length album Landmark late last month via Grand Jury in the US and Transgressive in the UK. The 13-song set was produced by BJ Burton (Bon Iver, Hiss Golden Messenger). You can catch the band currently on tour in support of the record, including two sold out shows this month at the historic First Avenue in Minneapolis as well as an appearance at this Summer's Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. This is Nathan Stocker's Fidelity High: A Winged Victory For The Sullen // A Winged Victory For The Sullen // Kranky // 2011. Nathan says, "A Winged Victory for the Sullen’s self-titled release has become a staple in my listening endeavors. This album slowly burned its way to the precipice of my attention. Reflecting on my relationship with the ambient duo’s music seems like a dream, as if i woke up one morning and the stretched out orchestrations filled with methodically pieced piano arrangements had always been lying there under the covers next to me. The masterful use of swells in the string sections never fail to put my being at ease. This record was a first step in my growing affair with ambient/slow music, and is still a constant and trusty companion."
