NOW SPINNING :  Mike And The Melvins // Three Men and a Baby

Dan Haugh and Mike Kunka made up Olympia's punishing drum and bass duo godheadSilo.  In 1998, drummer Haugh was involved in an accident that nearly severed his hand, bringing an abrupt end to the band (though they have recently played reunion shows).   At that time, bassist Kunka found himself on the road with legendary sludge metal giants The Melvins and the collaborative Mike and The Melvins was born.  The group recorded most of the album in 1999 but for unknown reasons, the tapes sat on the shelf for 16 years until they reconvened in 2015 to complete the tracks.  "Three Men and a Baby" is as fun as you'd expect from these abrasive noise-rock Gods with album opener "Chicken 'n' Dump" being worth the cost of admission alone.  It also features the excellently titled "A Friend In Need Is A Friend You Don't Need" and in case anyone is wondering, Dale Crover remains one of the greatest drummers of all time.
